everything you need to know about the

Portrait experience

the heart behind my work

Regardless of your season, and whether your babies are big, small, or furry, this time in your life deserves to be captured by something other than your iPhone. Family sessions were born from past wedding couples asking me to document their evolving marriages and growing families. Now I can’t get enough!

I love creating photos to remind families that in spite of the fact that the car or their floor is covered in cereal, their laundry room looks like an episode of Hoarders, and mom and dad are in a permanent state of exhaustion, their story is still beautiful.

Let’s plan a day, pick a location that is meaningful to you, and create a slew of images that will fill up the frames of your walls for years to come.

a note about

Personal & business branding

In a world where social media and websites are king, professional branding photos are vital to your personal brand or business. Being a small business owner myself, I love being able to meet other entrepreneurs and bring their passion and products alive through my photos.

I want to help you tell your brand’s story with clarity and purpose, in an artistic way that will attract your ideal clients with ease. I love creating bright and personable photos that grab your client’s attention and give you that great first impression, allowing you to stand out from your competitors.

Let’s plan a day and create a slew of captivating images that will fill your social feeds, website, and blog posts with consistency and professionalism for the coming months. No more worrying about what to post or how to market yourself or your business, because I’ve got you covered.

Frequently asked questions

need more questions answered?

To start the booking process, simply get in touch by emailing hello@ligiagathright.com and share with me details about the type of portrait session you’re interested in, the preferred date, and how many people will be at the session. I respond quickly to all inquiries with a link to my Portrait Pricing Guide. If we’re a good fit, you will receive a personal client portal link designed for you with your session details. I use an online client portal for all of my contracts, communication, and payments. Everything will be done electronically and is streamlined to create the easiest booking experience possible. Once the proposal is approved, a 50% non-refundable retainer and signed contract are all you need to secure your session date. Once everything is signed, sealed and delivered, I’ll officially put you on my calendar and then the planning of your session begins. The final payment is due on the day of the session.

Weekends are usually booked up for weddings, so weekday shoots will allow for much more available dates. I kindly ask that you make the proper work arrangements ahead of time so that I can photograph your portrait session during the week. I tend to shoot about 2 hours prior to sunset, but we can make it work any time of the day.

I picked up a point-and-shoot camera back in 2005. My nickname used to be “History” because I was literally capturing everything and everyone that crossed my path. In 2009 a friend asked me to shoot her wedding day and slowly started to make my transition into the wedding industry. Portrait sessions have always been part of my photography journey way before I started to grow an interest in wedding photography. I constantly work on educating myself on how to perfect my craft to better serve you.

3 Canon cameras (R6 Mark II, 5D Mark IV, and 5D Mark III), Canon prime lenses: 50 mm 1.2, 35 mm 1.4, 85 mm 1.2, off-camera flash setup (2 flash stands, 3 flashes + MagMod MagSphere), clear umbrellas for the rainy days.

I use Lightroom and every photo is hand edited by me for proper exposure, contrast, and saturation to match my personal style approach. I do light retouching on all of my photos. This means that if there are any glaring or distracting objects that should be removed (such as a bump from the tumble your toddler took that morning) I’ll remove them. Larger edits (such as removing tan lines) require more time and would require me to add additional editing hours to your collection. I believe Photoshop it’s an art itself. Therefore, I do not perform extensive editing on my photographs.

To name a few locations: Historic Oak View County Park, E. Carroll Joyner Park, Durant Nature Preserve, downtown Raleigh, Lafayette Village. I love nature and open locations, but I’m always open to exploring new spots. If you have a place that is meaningful to you, let me know. I love shooting in new areas and even better if it’s special to you!

I am available for sessions near and far. However, any session outside of 50 roundtrip miles of Raleigh, North Carolina will cost an additional travel fee. I do make an exception to certain places I love to travel to and new places I’ve always wanted to travel to, so feel free to reach out and ask how to minimize or eliminate those travel costs.

I love when people choose to incorporate pets into their sessions. Keep in mind that bringing a pet along often means that we’ll need to choose a pet-friendly location. I recommend planning for your pet to be at the first part of your session and having a friend take him/her home. We won’t use the pet in every single photo so it’s also nice to have someone available to hold him/her in between shots. If you’re going to bring a pet, I recommend exercising your pet before the session. Get the zoomies out by taking your pet on a nice long walk or play session with another fur friend. Bring your pet’s favorite toy, treats, and a water bottle. Squeaky toys are great for getting your pet’s attention to look at the camera and treats are perfect to reward good boy / good girl behavior. Don’t forget your waste bags! Depending on your pet’s fur type, it might also be a good idea to groom them before the shoot. Since your session will likely be at a public park and pets have to stay on a leash, bring a leash that works well with your outfits and blends in (black or beige are great options).

I always recommend coordinating outfits but not necessarily matching. Keep in mind that pastel and lighter colors will help achieve the light and airy look in your photos.

Complimentary wardrobe recommendations and location assistance is available, should you need additional help styling your session to perfection!

I hear this comment all the time. We aren’t all models and most people are not 100% comfortable in front of a camera. I strive to make all my sessions a fun experience because, let’s be honest, posing can be quite exhausting. During your portrait session, I’ll give you clear cues and directions on where to stand and what to do. I will guide you through the entire process beginning with poses that are super easy and natural with the goal of capturing your natural dynamic and authentic interactions. I’ll keep an eye on your hair, makeup, and outfits to make sure things stay in place. I want you to feel as relaxed as possible and enjoy your time in front of my camera.

I believe in quality over quantity and never put a number on the number of photos I deliver. While I don’t guarantee an exact number of photos, you should expect to receive at least 25 edited photos following your session.

All of your high-resolution edited photos will be delivered via a private online gallery approximately 2-6 weeks after your session. Should a delay occur in the timing of the delivery of your gallery, you will be notified as soon as possible. You will have full download and print rights and you’ll be able to share the link with family and friends. I will retain the copyright, which simply means that they cannot be resold, published, or distributed without my permission. Your gallery will remain active 2 weeks after I delivered your photos. While your gallery may stay up longer than that, I cannot guarantee it. Once your gallery has been delivered, I highly recommend downloading all high-resolution images to several devices. Consider investing in a portable, waterproof external hard drive. The biggest thing to remember is that the gallery is a method of delivery, not storage.  Download your photos as soon as you get them. There is a re-upload fee if you fail to do so before the gallery expires. Photo credit is always appreciated and welcomed!

RAW files are not available for purchase. You’d need special editing software such as Lightroom to even be able to view the files. You most likely stumbled upon my website because you were drawn by my editing style. Let me take care of the editing part for you, so you can enjoy the final product once I deliver it.

We will be in touch via email or phone should we need to reschedule. Typically the new date would be the following day. If you can’t make it on the new date, you will be refunded the money.
